Nostalgia is a wonderful thing! There is a wistful affection for these beautiful tactile Gigglewick Wood Egglets!
Handcrafted from carefully selected FSC certified hardwoods in our own workshop in Worthing, they are assembled, polished and buffed to a beautiful finish in the Gigglewick Gallery in The Royal Arcade.
Pick one up and your senses are flooded with pleasant stimuli due to their iconic shape, tactile surface and perfect weight! Look through the top brass eyepiece and you are transported back to your childhood as you carefully turn the Egglet and experience the kaleidoscope experience.
Not a Toy
A favourite of the grown-ups with the child inside, they should still be shared with the young ones! However, the Egglets do contain small glass mirrors and have a reasonable weight and any enjoyment by young children should be supervised. We do not consider them to be toys.
Safety & Care
Please note that, for safety reasons, the brass ends are screwed, and glued, into the internal brass barrel. In effect, this makes the Egglet almost impossible to take apart and repair.
Care should be taken not to drop the item onto a hard service. If this happens, please check that the lenses at each end have not cracked. If your Egglet gets wet then please wipe with a dry cloth, and never immerse in water. The inner workings are sealed but if moisture does get in the kaleidoscope may not work properly.
With proper care this little Egglet will last a lifetime. If you ever need it re-polishing then please just contact steve@gigglewick.co.uk or drop it off at our gallery in The Royal Arcade, Worthing and we will get this done for you, at no cost.
The Egglets are polished to a satin gloss with a premium shellac oil that provides a tough durable lasting finish. It has excellent resistance against liquids such as water, juices, wine, coffee, beer and fizzy drinks and does not peel, flake, crack or blister. The oil is selected to enhance the natural beauty of the wood and is food safe.
Each Egglet comes in a box or a hessian pooch, or both. It is entirely your choice.
